One of the greatest assets a person can have is humility. It is knowing when you do not know an answer and heeding the advice of one who does. For this entry, it is all about cooking and belief systems.
Okay, that is a strange combination of topics of cooking and belief systems but hear (read?) me out on this one.
My take on this is based on the Amish people in the USA. The Amish are very traditional Christian believers who do without the modern conveniences such as electricity and phones. When you get a close look on how they live and operate on a day to day basis, it is truly amazing. The simple life they lead is a duplicate of the simple life I lived in the Philippines just tweaked to fit life and the vegetables here.
So by checking any of my preconceived notions at the door, I can stand to learn a lot on how to help prepare our family for the future economic hardships of here. Where is the wisdom in this?
We recently picked up an Amish Recipe Book and I have again fallen in love with their culture. Those recipes are simple and easy to make. It produces large quantities and helps to encourage preservation of food supplies either through freezing or canning. Yes, grow your own food then change it into jams, jellies, breads, dishes and many other options.
The wisdom is recognizing when a different group has and always has had the answers and be willing to accept it. The second wisdom lesson is for the men in your life. My hubby instantly recognized that I would actually cook more because of the simple recipes. So the cookbook became a wise investment for him.
