Turning Back Time

Arnel Pineda, Charice Pempengo, and Madonna Decena may all be recent stars of the Philippines to have hit it big but they have a ways to go before they hit the standard of a legend. Granted they are getting close but time is the test of who hits the very rare level of “Legend.”

The “Legends” of music are very well known to nearly all Filipinos. We try our best to learn their songs at an early age and singing them becomes the standard of measurement we are judged by. Celine Dion is one of those “legends” of the music world and until recently she has had the crowds coming to her in Las Vegas. However, she has chosen to pursue other avenues in life and is entering into retirement for now.

Taking her place at the Caesar’s Palace is another legend that goes by one name nearly all who have ever paid attention to music knows. She is Cher. Her body of musical word is extensive with numerous hits that should be popping in your mind about now. In all honesty, it would be an honor to take in a performance by Cher in Las Vegas.

So the changing of the guard is in the process of taking place, hopefully we can get a chance at watching this legend perform.

Hope to see you there!!

Bad Economic Times & Hollywood

[ad]

Last week I had mentioned that my hubby and I got a chance to watch the movie Iron Man and we both loved it. But we are being presented with a problem that is very uncommon.

Hollywood has actually produced a series of movies we want to watch this year. Normally, there may only be 1 or 2 movies a year. Last year it was the movie Transformers for my hubby and I and he went to Spider-Man 3 by himself.

This year we are looking at 4-5 movies which would make an all-time high for us. It would make an all-time high for my hubby too and he worked in a movie theater for a few years. As we said, we took in Iron Man partially because I love the tech aspect and the special effects and my hubby was a comic book geek growing up. He doesn’t buy them now but he visits the store and reads them monthly.

The movies that are coming up are Chronicles of Narnia: Prince Caspian, Batman: Dark Knight and the Incredible Hulk. Yes, my hubby is in comic book geek heaven but I like the tech and special effects. Then we watch Mythbusters later to see how realistic any of the stunts actually were.

But going to the movie theater is not cheap even at the matinee prices. I long remember paying 50 php or $1 to sit in a movie theater all day in the Philippines. But here the matinee prices are $5.50 for each adult and child and the evening shows cost $7.50. With the price of gas being at $3.95 a gallon, it is getting a little scary with the gas almost costing as much as a kids ticket to a movie.

How do we balance this increased amount of movies we actually want to watch? Well, I just need to keep blogging more and more. Blogging to earn money for movies – what a concept. (Suportahan ang bisyo lol!)
