6 Comments Pinoy Music Pride

Music to a Filipina is like sports are to Americans. We grow up with it and strive to see just how good we are. The karaoke machines are in every home and the guys belt out Humperdink and Kenny Rogers while the women are measured on how well they tackle Whitney Houston. Competition is so very stiff that amazing talent goes without a record label.
I may know a bit about music as I won some of the singing contests I joined before (sa Pinas po!). Competition there was stiff in a city of 400,000. There is a lot of musical talent everywhere in the Philippines. Heck, some of the winners of American Idol wouldn’t make the cut to get on a musical show in the Philippines. (Opinion ko lang!)
All Filipinas know of and are proud of the new international Filipina singing sensation, Charice Pempengco. This quickly rising star only placed 3rd on the televised musical talent show she was on. Look at her now!!! She’s known world-wide as being on the level of Celine Dion and belting out Whitney Houston songs since she was 12, been on national TV in the USA, and not even 18 yet. But now, we have another Filipino to be proud of as we watch him rocket into international mega-stardom. Arnel Pineda is a 40 year old singer who looks 28 trying to make a dent in the tough singing circuit in the Philippines. But thanks to the power of YouTube, Arnel is taking over the spot of Steve Perry of the legendary band Journey.
From singing whatever gig he could get in the Philippines to being the front man, the lead singer of Journey!! It even caught the attention of CNN!! After searching throughout the USA, Journey found their lead singer in the Philippines!!
Pinoy musical pride is getting stronger every minute!! Ahh maybe “phillipino idol” este wrong spelling “Philippine Idol” pala will like me hehe!
Yes, I am proud of my heritage.
