Life Here & There
4 Comments What I Do and Don’t Miss About the Philippines Part II
continuation of What I Do and Don’t Miss About the Philippines Part I
15) The cheap tickets to a movie which you can watch over and over again. (Kahit buong araw ka sa loob ng sinehan lol!)
16) The security guards that are posted outside and inside of every establishment.
17) The 2 seasons which require the same set of clothes. The cheaper lifestyle that comes with not having to have a fall and winter stockpile of clothing.
18) The average temperature being above 20 degrees Celsius. Having a White Christmas is cool and wonderful but it gets old by January, February and March. I can do without the snowstorms in April and May.
19) Sunshine all year long!!
20) The expectation of respect and honor that goes with the family being the center.
21) Lastly, having corrupt politicians who you know are corrupt and don’t hide it. Here they are corrupt and try and lie to you about how they aren’t when it is obvious they are.
About now some trolls will say I should go back to my country if I don’t like it here or I should change and adapt to life here. Usually, those are the same people who have never been outside of their country to know how others view them. When all a person knows is the limited world that is immediately around them, they have no idea how ignorant they sound to the rest of the world.
There are though a few things I should balance out this article with of things I don’t miss from the Philippines.
1) The Abu Sayyaf and the fear of being blown up when going to a public area.
2) Holding a person’s guts inside their body after a bomb goes off.
3) Having a relative die from Dengue fever or encephalitis from a mosquito bite.
4) Having a doctor not know the difference between the parts of the digestive tract.
5) Earthquakes shaking buildings apart.
6) Cyclones (hurricanes) making a mess of things and triggering mudslides.
7) Floods rearranging your furniture.
8 ) Dirt floors and no privacy in open bamboo homes with one communal bathroom.
9) The drunkards who have lost everything and still keep on drinking alcohol.
10) Cobras in your home. I especially will never miss finding a cobra giving birth under my brother’s bed.
How about you? What do you miss and don’t miss about the Philippines?
