Life Here & There
5 Comments The Joy of Tampo
Yes, I actually used the words joy and tampo together. After having a conversation with my hubby regarding tampo and his previous experiences, I felt I just had to write it down.
As much as I love my Goryo, there are times when he says just the wrong thing at just the wrong time, or does something just the wrong way and that triggers the tampo. For those who do not know, tampo is the standard method of a Filipino lady demonstrating her anger with something you said or did. It is like a silent treatment.
There are times we feel like expressing ourselves like this:

But out of respect, we do not as that would just not be a Pinoy way heheh.
Out of curiosity, I asked Goryo what it was like for him growing up. He feels the type of high volume arguing in anger, yelling, nagging, and more only hurts marriages and makes for stress. His answer was he got so sick of anger being demonstrated by yelling and screaming (mahabang storya!) that he would rather have a dog than get married. So he will literally not raise his voice at all.
To him, the Filipino tampo is a JOY. It sends the message he screwed up somehow and now has an opportunity to figure it out. So he enjoys knowing that even though he made me angry, it can be resolved by cheering me up, then talking it out calmly.
Thank you,

My husband research about Filipina character even before i met him, and he gave himself a good heads-up with the “Tampo” issue. Then sure enough he’s got more than what he expected hehehe! Anyway, it gets better though, especially when you get to know each other more closely. Remembering about 4 years ago ga, i would not speak for days almost a week, all he gets from me are one word responses and he actually swear he’d actually rather have the tampo than a nagging loud wife??????
Passing by and wishing. you a great day.
@ Alona- Ga, grabe sunggodera ka gid ka taman gali dati no?
First, I agree with your hubby-Tampo exceeds a nagging loud wife by miles.
Siling pa ni Goryo:
“Men screw up and that’s a given. But we would rather get the tampo and the silent message of “you pissed me off” as opposed to the screaming variation that lists off all wrongs ever done.”
As for my tampo naman, Goryo take an active effort to decrease the duration. But it has improved since the first two years hehe. My tampos have decreased to only a few hours. The longest was a day or so. Indi gid severe ah hehe. Musta weather nyo da, diri ga snow na naman hay ambot!
It snowed last night then melted pretty much in the morning. I miss the snow, i like it. I know it doesn’t sound appealing to you when you get it way too much and its freezing. Everything is relative gid ga, when you don’t have it you want it but if it’s way too much, then it sucks! Hay buhay!
