Status of a Country

Events of these days in the USA, has me reflecting on some comparisons. The Philippines and the USA could not be more different and alike at the same time.

Corruption is well known in the Philippine government. Violence is nothing new and a number of politicians are killed in office for different reasons. We have our share of bad moments and negatives.

I personally remember my experienced when a bomb go off and the bicycle rider nearest to it being turned into a blood spot. Shrapnel from that sliced open the gut of a person… it was a horrific scene. I tried helping those people fighting to stay alive and you see people held their guts inside the folds of their torn flesh so they could live. Later, I went into shock as I realized I was lucky- that I survived. It was a close call.

Another incident had me watching the news. To my horror and nightmares, a deranged man was shown live on national television stabbing a young boy to death with a knife or ice peak (di ko na maalala). He and the boy were shot to death by the police in what was also televised.

All this but at the core the Philippine people have the values and traits necessary to succeed and be something great if they do but one thing. Do not copy the West.

Dito sa America, the country is called the home of the free and the brave. The USA is the leader of the free world. The USA is a great, great nation. That depends on your perspective.

This week I have seen some of the most disgusting behavior ever in the USA.

Much of the news media including CNN, NBC, MSNBC, CBS, ABC, US Weekly, OK magazine and many more have shown a blatant disregard for what is supposed to be fair and balanced journalism with integrity. They have attacked the VP nominee Governor Palin not for her experience, credentials or positions on issues but on her giving birth, raising a family, and extensive blatant defamation on her children. This is what a great civilized nation does? Attack the children, insult a woman, and insult mothers? They are little more than cowards. Sabagay, what do you expect sa Politika? It’s dirty and I should not be surprised if they are attacking the candidate’s privacy – it’s part of the game kumbaga.

They attack Governor Palin’s husband for having a drunken driving arrest in his early twenties while the Democrat Presidential candidate has admitted to smoking marijuana and doing cocaine. They chastise Governor Palin’s 17-year-old daughter for being pregnant out of wedlock while their Democrat Presidential candidate’s Caucasian mother was pregnant out of wedlock and gave birth to him when she was 18.

Now there are protestors at the Republican convention throwing sandbags and concrete bags at buses, spraying 80-year-olds with bleach and poison, physically beating on peaceful individuals , and even attacking a bus of Cub / Boy scouts terrifying them.

Is this what makes America so great? Is this what we expect from the USA, the land of the free and the BRAVE.  The media and these violent protestors are cowards.  Pwude namang mag protesta nang hindi nakagulo. Maging civil sana. That doesn’t even cover the blatant defamation of the online world claiming charges of Incest against the Governor’s husband, her lying about her pregnancy and claiming her 17 year old daughter who is 5 months pregnant (and responsible for her own choice) gave birth to the Governor’s son. Those morons are evil and they are actively spreading the lies. If they had any clue about the hormone adjustments and resetting of the menstrual cycle a woman goes through after birth, they would not be opening up their foolish mouths.

There are good people in the USA just as there are in the Philippines. It is past time for them to stand up and take on this evil for the sake of the future of their country.

The lesson in all of this is to us the citizens of the Philippines. We can be better. Do not look to the West but within.  Gotta be a Proud Pinoy! ’Wag tayong manggaya :)

I promise that after tomorrow there will be no more direct political statements. This garbage here has offended me to the core as a mother, wife, and parent in general.

Salamat po,

Anah
