Respect and Tolerance

I’m feeling a bit feisty so I’m going to tackle a ‘sensitive’ issue in today’s Life Here and There. The topic is about homosexuality, respect and tolerance. These couldn’t be more apart between the USA and the Philippines.

In the Philippines and especially in the provinces at mga conservative na pinoys, homosexuality is not approved of. Some will greet a declared or obvious homosexual with contempt, insults or avoid them. I am not one of them. I found that some gays to be quite good friends but there is a big, big catch. I respected them for who they were. They respected me for whom I am and did not seek to force their choices upon me. Also, they were the most responsible for their parents. They worked hard to generate an income and provide for their parents as their parents aged. It was their duty as they did not have a family of their own. Additionally, they respected society as a whole and did not try to force the society to change to meet their choices. From that standpoint, I knew I could trust them as a friend and take them for who they were.

However, they knew very quickly that I will never condone following through on the act of homosexuality. Unless you are married, you keep your pants zipped for many reasons of which all are basic wisdom. Just as the choice of smoking cigarettes is slow suicide from the myriad of problems caused by that personal choice, engaging in the sexual acts of homosexuality is also akin to suicide. As noted from a doctor giving a neutral report,

“It is clear that there are serious medical consequences to same-sex behavior. … Approving same-sex relationships is detrimental to employers, employees and society in general.”

Dropping your pants is a choice. If you are not interested in the opposite gender, that’s fine. There is no rationale as to why you HAVE to engage in the act. If you get sick and die from that choice, then that is the result of your choice. I will not feel sorry for you. Don’t whine to me when unzipping your drawers kills you.
My stance was always clear with my homosexual friends. They respected it and in doing so earned my respect.

In the USA though, it is completely distorted. You have politicians promoting the gay and lesbian lifestyle. San Francisco lets them break the decency laws in public. Judges support that lifestyle by allowing it to be promoted in the public schools as early as Kindergarten. This is when the majority of the USA is opposed. Even the judges are not respecting the will of the people who are supposed to be the ones in charge according to the US Constitution.

But the USA has distorted the meanings of words. Good no longer means good. If you do good things, that is bad. If you do bad things, that is good. Criminals are rewarded. Ignoring the law and the Constitution is cheered on. If you follow the law, you will be made into a victim as the government has turned against you.
Respect does not mean a mutual agreement. Tolerance does not mean tolerance. The media, politicians, and those pushing their choices against the rest of the nation have redefined the meanings.

Respect by their definition is supporting their beliefs. If you disagree, you are to be called names, ridiculed and labeled a bigot for disagreeing. Tolerance means agreeing with their views. It doesn’t matter if you disagree from a religious, social, cultural or a medical reason. You are called an intolerant bigot to be punished and prosecuted.

In the rest of the world, we don’t call that respect and tolerance. We call that being a self-centered, childish bully. When the government does it, we call it a tyranny.

The land of the free is turning its back on the First Amendment and the freedom of speech. You can talk only if you agree. That sounds eerily familiar to my history lessons on Nazi Germany, the USSR and Pol Pot.

Thank you,

Anah
