6 Comments Pinoy Pride!
Controversy has sprung up again regarding a Filipino (Pinoy man) that has made the news. Opinions greatly vary but since this is my blog, I’m going to give you mine. Renaldo Lapuz, age 44, was given a chance to sing a song he created on American Idol.
Quite honestly, I’m proud of him! He has represented the gratitude, respect and positive mindset that attract so many to Filipinos. His singing was good for a standard Pinoy karaoke singer but he did many 40 year old Filipino’s proud. Yes, his attire was a bit flashy but he got noticed, made it past the initial screening judges, and sang to the US as was his wish. Did he dress weird? I don’t think so. His dress reminded me of how guys his age decorate their jeepney’s back in the Philippines.
So I say thank you for being such a shining example of the positive attitudes of a Filipino. For the record, I agree with him regarding Simon Cowell. People need that harsh reality check he provides and his brutal honesty is refreshing. Granted, I wouldn’t pour on as much praise as Renaldo did. Well, see for yourself:
makeitpink-ay nakupo. o onga nakakahiya. bakit ganyan? diba overage sha? they were just making fun of him diba? ay. fatkid992 – WOOO FILIPINOO…disgrace to our race lol so funny though haha. MCRMYPILIPINAS – he is a crazy ass dude i bet he is a filipino…he just made a total humiliation on our race ha-ha! but he is really really funny in a weird way. stimulateman-gago talaga. imabee-Fuckin’ shame to the P.I.!!! MAHIYA KA!
Disgrace to our race? He made a total humiliation on our race?
First, Filipino is not a race po. We all belong to the human race. Filipino is our heritage and culture. Next, having a screen name of “fat kid” probably isn’t a positive representation. If Renaldo is a disgrace, then what were those Caucasians at the end of the clip? How does Renaldo compare to Britney Spears? Should all Americans put their heads down in shame as Britney walks through a store in the nude? Would you rather have a Filipino version of the drunkard Amy Winehouse stagger in and pass out?
Renaldo with all of his fancy dress does our Filipino heritage and culture proud! No, he isn’t Charice Pempengco but I’m willing to be he knows how to capitalize the word “I”.
Thank you,
