Life Here & There
4 Comments Men of the West! Part I
Okay, I admit it. I stole that line from Aragorn of Lord of the Rings: Return of the King. I like that movie. But this entry is to compare the men of the Philippines [bato bato sa langit ang tamaan wag po sanang magalit hehe] with foreign men namely those from the USA. I would not be able to do justice to men from other countries as I have not had much contact with them.
In the Philippines, the average guy who brings home the money is quite dominant. They’ll expect to go out and do what they want to with their friends when they want to, tell their wife what to do and when, and more. Like serve me, serve me, serve me attitude. Of course, there are exceptions such as my brother and father but it is the norm. Additionally, there is some difference if you are from the provinces versus living in Manila as usual.
However, if you are looking to immigrate to a different country, it is not that easy to generalize on guys. Since I’m not living in Europe or Australia, I will not cover those continents. But I will give a bit of insight into guys in the USA with help from my hubby. The type of guy you can find in the USA is incredibly varied.
Similar to how there are differences between men and women in the provinces versus Manila, you need to know there are some basic geographic differences in cultural attitudes in the USA. What Filipinos or Pinoy see on the TV is far from reality here in the USA.
First, the general regions are the North East, the Mid-West, New York City, California, the Western, Texas, Florida, and the Bible Belt. The North East usually is more liberal leaning and doesn’t move around a lot. Those in New York City may often not know much about life outside of NY City. These are busy bodies and often socialites. The Mid-West is known for hard working, genuinely nice people. Those in California are often considered very liberal and walk to a different beat.
The Western area people are tough, hard working country people – except for Las Vegas which is called Sin City for a reason. Texans are a different breed but are usually honest and hard working depending on if you are in a big city like Dallas or in smaller communities. Florida has a heavy population of legal and illegal Hispanic immigrants, older persons from the north getting away from winter, and a bit more liberal leaning. The Bible Belt is a strip of states in the south with people who are commonly highly conservative, evangelical Christians and varied on their work ethics. (source: Goryo)

Thank you,
I totally agree with you. Mga pipol dri sa Cali kay sobra pa sa liberated maskin man mga babae oi..(apil nako ato?)hehehe. And its not only where they live sis, also their status in life. Some men that are in the executive fields are kind of high and mighty and those doctors or in the healthcare biz has this god complex which annoys me to heaven! Keep posting..like reading ur entries

Bisag dinhi sa Wisconsin sis daghan pud mga liberated- usually you hear younger ones na it’s okay, most ppl are doing it- kinda like that attitude. Mismo, atong mga executives mga uppity mana kaayo sila. I don’t care unsa nang mga title nila jud. Job title means squat when you’re DEAD. I’m glad you are enjoying my post sis!
