Independence Day

[ad#square]

This may sound like a strange topic to be in the category of Life Here and There but it applies ever so well.

I would say most educated individuals in the USA know of a simple detail. July 4th is Independence Day in the USA only. Perhaps I am being a little to gracious because it is sometimes tough to find people here in the USA who understands their life, their marriage, their holidays; even their weather is not how it is for everyone else. (Ehemmm lang.. bato bato sa langit ang tamaan wag magagalit hehe!) Some flat out just do not get it as their focus is on themselves and trying to justify not doing something more with their life. There really is no excuse not to succeed in the USA (maraming opportunities!) unless the government gets in the way too much.

Here in the USA, fireworks are purchased for a variety of uses. The big ones are only for those certified to handle them while smaller ones that do not shoot out are for the standard person to use. At least until someone in government gets some idea to ban them to stop global warming or some other handy excuse. (Sorry po, not a big fan po ako ng global warming campaign topic!)

Some people moan about the actions of the government and declare the parades should end and the fireworks stop. When a people stop respecting the sacrifices made in blood so they can whine, then their safety and freedoms may be coming to a close because of the lack of respect and sheer laziness to be a man and a woman who knows their heritage.

There are many in America who does hold dearly to their heritage. There are also many who oppose it. But many seem to not care one way or the other until it sneaks up on them and they discover they lost what they took for granted.

What about life in the Philippines? What about our Independence Day? For a time it was on July 4th as well. But former President Diosdao Macapagal explains it best. As of August 4, 1964, the Philippine Independence Day was officially pronounced to be on June 12th the day “General Emilio Aguinaldo proclaimed the independence of the Filipinos in Kawit, Cavite, in 1898.”

I’m proud to be a Filipina. I’m also proud to be an American but wish others, especially those elected, would respect the heritage of the USA as well.

Have a safe at Masayang (Happy) Independence Day to all of you,

Anah
