Life Here & There
No Comments Cross Cultural Chocolate Comparison
Like other women, I like chocolate. Since my travels have taken me from Pinas or the Philippines, parts of the USA, Denmark, and Switzerland so far, I’ve taken the advantage of sampling chocolate from many places. I’m looking forward to trying out the German chocolate and the other specialties. Toblerone (Swiss made) is one of my favorites already.
But I will give a brief overview of a kind of chocolate candy known just about everywhere. M&M’s that chocolate that “melts in your mouth but not in your hands.” You may be surprised to know they do not taste the same and are made differently based on the country or continent.
In the Philippines, M&M’s are a rare treat for me and my family. So each one you get is savored like a diamond melting in your mouth. So of course, it tastes great. Going on from that experience, I looked forward to the chocolate in the USA and the M&M’s here. But when I ate the kind made in the USA, there was just something about them that didn’t impress me. So M&M’s in the USA fell off my chocolate wish list. (Which Goryo was happy about as he joked that 1% of our budget was for chocolate.)
When we were in Denmark though, I got the M&M’s from there and they were yummy! I’m not certain what was different but the colors were duller and my tongue and tummy liked them better. So even on a product known throughout most of the world, it is made differently according to the tastes of the area. Go figure they make what is in demand in an area.
Now when it comes to Swiss chocolate, be careful of what you let your kids eat. Some of the better Swiss chocolates might make your kids a bit tipsy but that is an entry for another day. I’m off to work for now. Ta ta!
Thank you,
