2 Comments Crazy Court Systems of the West
The American court systems often make strange rulings that you wonder if common sense was ever a requirement to being a judge. But there is a couple in Italy who was taken to court because they named their kid Friday. They thought of the day of the week. But judges somehow figured this child would be subject to too much teasing because of a character in the book Robinson Crusoe.
“Since city hall officials are obliged by law to report odd names, the matter ended up before judges in Genoa, the northern Italian city where the couple live.
Last month, an appeals court stated that Friday falls into the category of the “ridiculous or shameful” names that are barred by law, as it recalled the native servant in Daniel Defoe’s novel. The judges wrote that naming somebody Friday would bar him from “serene interpersonal relationships” and would turn the boy into the “laughing stock of his group,” according to a report in La Republica this week.
According to the daily, the judges also said that, as a day of the week, Friday raises a sentiment of sadness and penitence, when not being associated with bad luck outright. Rossi said the court, which upheld a previous ruling made in June, also ordered the boy to be named Gregorio after the saint on whose day he was born.”
These civilized court system eh walang kwenta at nakakaloka. These court systems need to visit the Philippines to toughen up. As Johnny Cash says you gotta get tough or die.
They also didn’t step in on my sister-in-law’s initials of B.J. If you do not know, BJ is an American slang for “alam mo na ehem..“
Just gotta get tough or die.
Thank you,
Hahaha..this is really a fun article sis. My mother in law’s initial is BJ – Betty Jo. She doesn’t get teased by the nickname/initial but she doesn’t want everyone to know that she is from Oklahoma. I don’t really get it but David told me that people from Oklahoma get teased and their called as Okies (sp?).
I’m just glad that my initial is read as JAG..oh diba and cute!
What if some parents named their son like this: Frederick Anthony Gazer. And his intials would be read as FAG!waaahahaha!
Sis, JAG sikat eh! Akong initials kay AAH- so when you read it : AAH- ahhhhhhhh!! LOL! If you live in WI – they call us Cheeseheads! Ka silly ba sa imong mother in law. Na mao, I remember Carrie Underwood and she’s from Okies (Oklahoma) eh? She should be proud where she came from kay ang HANSON ug si Carrie U gikan dira na lugar!
