Wisdom, Weather, and Weary

In this Vested Wisdom entry, the piece of wisdom should sound obvious until you ponder the circumstances.

If you make your income by using your fingers such as typing, answering the phone, or maintaining a blog, you have to avoid injuring your fingers and your hands. That should make for basic common sense.

Obviously, you can guess that my fingers and hands have felt better today. This is the reason why.

My parent-in-laws live 125 miles away from us one way. Combine in my work schedule and my hubby’s, it makes for limited times to visit. With Wisconsin weather the way it is and their current injury status, my hubby, daughter and I went up their twice this month to get a lot of the outdoor work done. Now I like digging, planting, and just about any of the outside chores except one. I do not like working with bricks and patio blocks. Why? Well, I’m a 5’ tall petite Filipina whose hands can hold only just so much and those bricks and blocks are heavy!

After getting a batch of other projects done, my hubby and I started on a project of laying 65 patio blocks that are 8”x15”x2” and weighed a hefty amount each. Between clearing the ground where they were going to go, leveling off the surface so that you could walk or roll something over the bricks without getting caught on one that was a lot of work for both of us. With his bad ankles, my hubby was really pushing himself but it had to get done. Sunday was the day that he did a lot of really heavy work for an hour or two and then we laid down 49 of the 65 patio blocks.

You don’t get to just lay them down and be done with it. The process of making certain it is level requires you to put the block down, pick it up, fix the dirt, put it down and repeat until it is perfect. That is tiring! Should we have done it over a longer duration of time? Yup, but we didn’t have the time. Did I mention it was rather cold or chilly at being just a tad over 50 degrees Fahrenheit?

Now you know why this entry isn’t long. My back, fingers, hands and wrists hurt. At least my ankles aren’t hurting too like my hubby.

Thank you and have a wonderful evening,

Anah
