UN – UNdoing Sovereignty?

Ah, the United Nations was formed as a forum to resolve disputes between nations.  This may sound like a noble goal but it is sorely flawed.  In order for the UN to have any validity, countries must be willing to cede control of their nation’s sovereignty over to it.  The only method this would ever happen is in the fine print of treaties and accords and in small bit by bit amounts so the population of a nation would not know their leadership sold them out.

This is something our leaders must be vigilant on lest they betray those who put them in power.  So what then is the function of the UN?  Well, we have a close relative that has directly worked for the UN. I summarize her statement.   The UN is an unpleasant place for people to be paid to blow hot air and do nothing.

When we see headlines like “UN urges USA to end Cuba embargo” as they have done for 16 straight years, the end result is nothing.   Some of the blowhards even tried to make a resolution to chastise Hezbollah and Israel in their last skirmish a while back.  The French wanted to pass a resolution with the help of the Americans to stop Hezbollah.  UN Resolution 1551 attempted a similar thing but since when did Hezbollah give a rat’s butt what the UN thought?  So money is spent so many politicians can talk and effectively do one thing.   Tell someone “Stop that, you are being bad.”   That doesn’t work in the playground, why would it between nations and unlawful militias or terrorist groups?

Other groups or UN intellectuals were claiming Israel was committing war crimes by violating the Geneva Convention codes of conduct.  They omitted the minor detail Israel, Hezbollah, Hamas, Al-Qaeda and more never signed on.  You can’t violate something you never agreed to follow.   Duh.

So what does the UN do?  Well, suck up money and produce enough hot air that we could race big balloons with baskets around the world.  But that is not the big question.  Try these out to ponder on.

Why is the USA footing the largest part of the bill for such a useless entity?

Why are our tax dollars being spent on an attempt to give our sovereignty away to foreign entities?

How strong would our economy be if we bothered to follow the Constitution our leaders are sworn to follow?

How many taxes would be negated or how much national debt would be reduced if we would quit exporting our hard earned dollars? When will our leaders in the Executive, Legislative and Judicial branch get a clue of who they work for?

Or is it time to hit the government reset button allowed in the Constitution?

  • Yeah, you have to love the UN… That bastion of global feel-goodery. Personally, I am a firm believer that we need to get out and stay out. I mean, in principle the UN was a good idea. And in its early years maybe it was. But what it has come to be these days is nothing more than a bloated system aimed at global collectivism.

While this may not sound offensive on the outside, the real trouble with the UN is the fact that their idea of a “global community” essentially means allowing third-world countries to ride on the backs of industrialized nations and take advantage of them. They work on the principle of redistribution of wealth on a global scale.

Combine that with the fact that they think that they can create and impose international law, which we already know doesn’t work and is usually more harmful to large, industrialized nations than to third world (or rogue)nations who don’t abide by law anyway.

  • I’m in agreement with you totally.

However in the case of the UN and Hillary’s latest phrase communitarianism or this so called focus on the global or greater community, I find that to be a very thinly veiled way of saying what it is. Just drop the itarian from the Clinton word and you’ve got exactly what it is. Global communism – Which shows a bad understanding of history. Communism failed miserably.
