3 Comments Skills That the Parents Must Teach
Anyone reading my blog knows that my bana and I am no fan of the USA public school system for many reasons. I will not repeat them as you can just browse through my Family Matters topic and get the picture. With our current CLASS curriculum, I am much more pleased and at ease with what our daughter will be taught. I can say finding it was truly a Godsend.
As good as that curriculum is at setting the proper foundations on factual history, solid math, real science and the rest of the topics, we the parents have to take it one step further. We need to instill the skills necessary so that she can excel and thrive in a Free Enterprise system. If the USA is not an option, then the Philippines remain a choice.
Running a business is no easy thing but there are three basic ingredients you need to do it. The first is the proper attitude. The second is an incredible work ethic. The third is perseverance. Your attitude must be positive and uplifting. You have to want to work hard and have no excuses. You have to never give up.
My bana has those attitudes as do I. He has some complicating factors in his ankles that do hinder his abilities to an extent. But his physical challenges are met with a willingness to change to meet the new conditions he has. I will always support him just as he supports me.
Our daughter is picking up our traits as kids do. She also has developed the love of reading that we have as well. So as this website says, there are 8 Essential Skills They Didn’t Teach You in School. The majority of the books listed are in our personal library already. How to make people like you, speed reading, time management and setting goals, knowing how the financial system works, negotiation, saving, investing, being successful, and marketing are all core things detailed in the link.
I’ve read most of those books listed and will pick up the remainder. The vast majority of business owners I know read the same sets of books that also include Og Mandino, Dale Carnegie, John Maxwell and many more. You do what it takes to survive and thrive according to the time tested skills based on lifting others up and not tearing them down.
Please pass on such knowledge to your children as they will not be inheriting an easy ride in the USA . They and all of us will need to suck it up and do what we must for our families.
Thanks for reading,
Anah

My husband and I also don’t like the public school system here…As much as possible, we prefer home school program, and since I used to teach in the Philippines before, I might just be the one to teach our son in the future… Let’s see…
