5 Comments Remaining Grounded in Humility

America has a nickname of being the “land of plenty” which is an appropriate name for it. The resources the USA can bring to bear in an issue are truly massive o staggering. But at the same time it is stunning how the government restricts the usage of the resources when it could be doing so much good.
Strange political decisions aside, I must admit living here brings with it challenges. One of the primary challenges is to not get caught up in the excess that is here and get used to it. We try our best to maintain only that which we need for our possessions and our cupboards, fridge and freezer are relatively well stocked. (Ang daming pagkain!)
Some here would think we are choosing to live poor by comparison to the big house, 2 or more cars and numerous luxuries some have and flaunt. Quite simply, they can live their lives the way they choose. Likewise, we will live ours the way we choose to and others will not influence us to splurge and spoil ourselves on the excess here.
I’ve actually had some ask me that since I’m married why don’t I let myself go and get fat. My answers to them are just something nice on their ears because they couldn’t handle the true reasons.
Like many Filipinos with relatives back in the Philippines, we know how hard the life we left was. Because of the choices of other countries, prices of food and fuel have skyrocketed there too. So while we are here in the USA with full cupboards and fridges dealing with some costs that are increasing due to bad decisions, others suffer.
How does a person remain grounded in humility and not give in to the excess?
The answer is a harsh blunt reminder. Someone very close to my heart is sacrificing for his children. His children are eating well but he can barely afford a meal a day for himand his spouse. They are near starvation while I sit here with a full fridge.
So for those few who want to try and bully my blog off the web while they flaunt all that they have, I will not let my kapamilya die just to be selfish. If we have enough money to keep the wild birds fed, then I can provide food and medicine for my family back home.

I am with you on this one, An. Yes, if we can afford to feed the stray animals and wild birds here, we can surely afford to help out the people we left back home that needs the money most. Why not naman eh. That is what I try to do, I always give some money to my people back home, na if I can afford to spend hundreds of dollars just for my shopping, why not share my money. By the way, I think you always have thought provoking posts here, interesting ba, so one of my fav-reads baya nako imo blog.
