1 Comment So..so..Politics Week Kick-Off
Well, my version of (so-called) politics that is. I’m not going to get into any debate topic or change into a political forum but I will present to those readers of mine a compare and contrast of political issues in the Philippines versus the USA. The main intent as with all of my blog is to prepare those choosing to live here for the difference they can come to expect or the similarities between both.
The basic similarities seem to be uniform in both and many other countries. Many Filipinos are unhappy with their current President. Many Americans are unhappy with their current President. Many Filipinos are unhappy with the Legislative branch just as the Americans are with theirs. Many Filipinos and Americans would agree to a line “to err is human to really screw it up requires Congress.”
Filipinos know most if not all of our government officials are corrupt. Americans generally believe their government is corrupt. The main difference is the officials in the Philippines are more blatant in their corruption. The American politicians tend to be sneakier about it.
Land mass, the USA has a far greater amount of territory to be concerned about. This gives it far more resources and issues to contend with. However, most of the bulk of the USA is found in the 48 connected continental states. The main two languages are English followed by Spanish. The Philippines contends with the challenges of governing thousands of islands with hundreds of dialects requiring a different approach for security, transportation and commerce.
No matter how much one can list off the differences between how the governments work a few things remain the same. Politics is politics. Few people in just about any country trust what the politicians say. But the greatest common feature is the people of the countries. In the Philippines and the USA, the people are generally good, honest, hard working, and caring people. Jerks are jerks everywhere and there will always be a criminal element no matter where you live. But most people are good.
What the majority of the people in the USA do not trust are the politicians, lawyers, media, Hollywood and the public school systems. So the people of the USA are unlike what the rest of the world gets to see and is lead to believe is the USA.
