5 Comments Learning How to Drive in the USA
To start this off, every state in the USA has their version of the driving laws. Most will be about the same but I will speak in generalities as learning to drive in California, Texas or Wisconsin are completely different experiences. Silly things like differences in ice, snow, or way too many cars in one place.
So to my Fellow Filipinos, that is the first difference. The USA has a LOT of driving laws as opposed to the Philippines where they are practically none. In order to legally drive here, you will need to go through 3 stages of testing.
The first test is a written test proving that you know all of the rules of the state regarding how to drive. Study up as these are not always that easy. Next is a vision test. If you fail this test, you are not allowed to drive. So make certain you have already had a trip to the eye doctor.
The last test is the hardest test. You have to prove to an examiner that you can drive and perform all of the actions necessary in a car. Yup, they ride with you and judge your performance while giving you instructions on what to do. It is quite common to fail this test the first time. However, do not take that failure to personally.
One of the biggest errors you can make is to shift to a different exam center. You will fail the first time there too. Instead, reschedule your next driving exam at the same place you just failed. Why? Because the route does not change nor do the instructions. You can practice driving and doing exactly what is on the test because now you know what to expect!
Finally, why are there so many laws? I had to struggle with this one. When I was learning, I felt because I had the green light, I could just go and turn to the left right away. Goryo was quite emphatic that I didn’t dare do that. I asked him to clarify why not. His answer explained everything in very blunt terms.
“The driving laws are made for each state to do one thing. Prevent someone from killing me. So please, do not put the car into a position where we can and mostly likely will get hit. I do not want to die.”
Opppss! LOL!
Aha…if only I can remember all that then I would be good to go. One day I will drive not just yet…

even if there are lots of laws, in order for nga di ma lisdan is to learn the manubila sa.. para pud imong isipon nlng katong don’ts and do’s nga buhaton…
nalingaw ko sa statement sa imong bana….
Nova,
Learning how to drive – but of course. Pagkatapos nimo pasar ug written test. DOT will give you a learner’s permit so you will have a chance na maka practice- tapos pag ready ka na, you can then schedule for actual driving test. It’s really stupid if you schedule for actual driving test pag wala kang alam mag operate ng manubila lol! The Do’s are Don’t are fun to learn- it may take time but it’s worth it. Thanks for visiting diay.
