No Comments Insurance vs Doctors vs Pharmaceutical Part II
The pharmaceutical companies will sometimes give a profit kickback to the doctor if they prescribe the meds from their company. Does this create a bias towards pharmaceutical drugs and money in some doctors? Of course it does. But you can find doctors that do the job for the right reason. However, these same pharmaceutical companies are the ones that put their drugs on the commercials on TV. That isn’t cheap and the cost is passed to you (us) the consumer in the price of the meds.
What is the range of the price of medications in the USA? For a 90 day supply, the prices can range from $5.00 to $95,000.00. The highest priced pills are those for cancer treatment and AIDS. Obviously, the insurance company knows of this practice and has to watch your prescriptions closely to screen for doctors trying to get an unnecessary kickback.
Just because a doctor prescribes a medication or procedure doesn’t always mean they are right and doesn’t mean it is an automatic coverage. They could be blinded by the dollars …who knows diba? That is why it is good to seek alternative treatment. Ask your doctor if there is something he can prescribe that is in generic form. Most of them are willing to help you out. If we will not ask them; they will not be able to work with us.
Do these players in the medical field like each other? No, they don’t. But if you want to go with whatever the doctor says, you’ll need to cancel your insurance plan or just follow their prior authorization reviews or if you have no patience at all then foot the bill yourself. The one who pays the bills calls the shots.
Now what would happen if the government mandates universal health care insurance for all? Who is profiting in that?
Thank you,
Anah
