What the Heck?

[ad#square]

In this Vested Wisdom entry, I am going to look at something that has me totally baffled even with the input of as many as I can get.

As I have asked my hubby, family friends, his parents, none of them have ever seen a presidential election play out like this one has. According to them, the Vice Presidential nominees get a little bit of notice when they are selected and then fade to the background. They only come back into public concern on a usually poorly watched VP debate or when they say something particularly dumb. Otherwise, the focus is on the two Presidential candidates as the public is deciding who they want to be President.

That is why much of this year makes no sense at all.

Some are going so far as to say “when Sen. Obama debates Gov. Palin.” That makes no sense. Sen. Obama is running for President. Gov. Palin is running for VP. They will not be debating each other. The Presidential candidates debate each other and the VP’s debate each other not the Pres. Candidates vs. VP candidates. So why is there such a focus on the VP candidate?

Not only has the media and many other gone nuts about her children, her religion, and her husband in blatant disregard for anti-defamation laws, anti-discrimination laws and the First Amendment but now they are criticizing her private purchases?

Governor Palin has a style team to help her with fashion and buying some designer labels. We can’t forget she bought a used tanning bed with her own money up in Alaska where it is dark quite a bit.

Who cares? My hubby got three pairs of shorts from a thrift store. Does that make him unqualified to run for office? If it isn’t a crime and they pay with their own dime, then that does not count in the slightest bit towards whether or not you can run the country.

Some say “but tanning beds can cause cancer.” So what? Sen. Obama smokes cigarettes and they do cause cancer. What’s the point?

What about Trooper Gate? The only problem is that this is a problem. Any state police officer or protector of the peace hired to enforce the laws that breaks the law on state time with state equipment should be fired. If their boss can’t run a more disciplined unit, then that boss should be fired. Where is the debate?

She gets a lot of money in federal earmarks for Alaska! Only the federal House of Representatives has control over the Federal budget. It would help if the states were permitted to generate their own revenue but when the federal Congress blocks it in the form of blocking oil and natural gas production, they are stuck. Is it the Governor’s fault that the federal Congress can’t get their act together?

Gov. Palin is also under assault for a rape kit controversy. To quote: “A sponsor of the law, Rep. Eric Croft, D-Anchorage, told USA Today last week, “In retrospect, I would have asked the female working-mother mayor of that town why her police chief was against this.”” That’s dumb. Ask the Police Chief about his opinions yah moron.

Now, it has reached an ultimate low of requiring a federal investigation into some gutless idiot who thought hacking into Governor Palin’s private email was a good idea until he realized he may have screwed his life up. Of course, the media offers up an incredibly distorted view where somehow they justify a federal crime and make up more stuff.

What is fair is what a VP candidate says. So let us take a look at the other candidate who is potentially a heartbeat away from being President. According to him it is the patriotic duty for the rich to pay more in taxes and they are unpatriotic if they don’t. Yup, that’s incentive to work hard.

He goes on record saying “I’m prepared as a matter of faith to accept that life begins at the moment of conception.” Then he comes back saying that if the Republicans cared about children with special needs they would support embryonic stem cell research. So life begins at conception but kill children anyways to save children? Hunh?

At least he didn’t try to tell a person confined to a wheelchair to stand up. Ooops, he did. Other fun comments of his can be found here.

These are just the freaking VP candidates not the Presidential candidates. What is the big deal?

Thank you,

Anah
