1 Comment Filipino Diet vs. USA Diet
[ad#txt-ad]
Every day we ask ourselves “what do I want to eat?” That is a very common question especially in the USA where the choices are many.
The other option is do we eat whatever we want or do we go healthy? The healthy options almost always rotate around food made at home where you can control how it is made and fresh or frozen foods.
The food base in the USA is heavy on the sugars, starches, and calories. Also the size of the meals is also considerable with them often being up to twice the size of what you would expect in the Philippines in a restaurant. We also have to remember the average person in the USA is of significantly larger in build and I don’t mean fat or mataba.
Of course I am speaking in terms of having a good enough budget to afford most average foods. When you need to focus on a heart healthy, low cholesterol or diabetic diet the cost is higher and the food is a bit tougher to find. The USA common meal is focused on “meat (beef or pork) and potatoes” with fruits often not being eaten due to the expense. Veggies are on the side and sometimes considered something added on to a meal.
However in the Phils, fruit, fish and veggies are the main base that goes with the many kinds of rice. On the heart healthy diet, the Filipino Diet wins the day as it calls for more fruit, fish and veggies.
(biased ko noh? Hehe) Minsan pala may advantage din when you cannot afford those nummy unhealthy food. You are healthier pala than people na maraming pagkain sa fridge kaso junk foods naman pala.

The Filipino diet is truly a God-send. Look at the Book fo Daniel in the Bible for instance, first chapter. Daniel stressed the importance of eating a very similiar diet..and in ten days..what happened?
The Filipino diet and way of living..great stuff..and yep..I am American. The Philippines is one of the finest friends of the USA, so guess what? We too can learn
