Cutting the Cheese

[ad#txt-ad]

Tonight my hubby and daughter combined to make a rather yummy supper. None of the ingredients were that expensive. The end product was quite plentiful and a continued meal for a couple meals to come so quite economical.

The supper was a version of a loaded nachos platter. The ingredients were ground turkey, onions, garlic, green, yellow and red bell peppers, corn off the cob, a tomato, tomato sauce, Amish taco seasoning, a little bit of butter, and one packet of the hot sauce from Taco Bell. All that got put in the center of a batch of chips w/ a topping of sour cream. The picture is below. Yes, it is quite delicious.

Now that part is what makes this Chef’s Hat. This also belongs to the Family Matters and Vested Wisdom because of how my hubby can be a bugger and my daughter super helpful.

Since she is old enough and tall enough, our daughter is chipping in and helping with laundry, cooking, dishes, cleaning, and other chores. She is awesome in that she’ll pop in and ask what she can do to help out. Well, she arranged the chips on the plates and cut the processed cheese into little cubes so they could melt easier. Goryo had her proudly tell me that she was going to cut the cheese. When she was done, he had her proudly come back and let me know when she was all done cutting the cheese.

That was the Family Matters part. This is the Vested Wisdom part. When my daughter fully understands the joke he pulled, she’s going to smack him in the butt.

“Cut the cheese” or “cutting the cheese” has a loaded meaning. Yes, it can mean exactly what she did. She used a knife and diced the cheese up into cubes.

But it also means having passed gas, flatulence, farting or utots. I believe the term comes from certain types of cheese that has a rather ripe smell when you cut it. I’m not certain if that still holds with modern cheese making methods but likely the older traditional ways.

So when Goryo had her proudly tell me “Mommy, I’m cutting the cheese!” He stood behind with a big grin as I had to keep that straight, supportive mommy face. When she was done, she bounced back in declaring “I’m done cutting the cheese!!” Yes, he stuck his head round the corner to smile again.

What a bugger.

Have a nice weekend,

Anah
