Agape Love

[ad#square]

Agape love or it is pronounced a-gap-ae love is not a traditional form of love but the kind spelled out in the Bible and sorely lacking by those in government. Agape love is sacrificial love.

As the link defines it:

“Jesus gave the parable of the Good Samaritan as an example of sacrifice for the sake of others, even for those who may care nothing at all for us, or even hate us, as the Jews did the Samaritans. Sacrificial love is not based on a feeling, but a determined act of the will, a joyful resolve to put the welfare of others above our own.”

So what does this mean and how does it interact with the Health theme week?

First, it is incredibly challenging to do for those who hate you or care nothing for you at all. It is one thing to help and sacrifice for others who do not know you but those who hate and try to destroy you is hard. I am not talking about open warfare like Radical Islam or atheists who try to use this against you but more on the personal level. There are some individuals out there that just get their joy out of making the lives of others a living hell.

They are some sick, evil and twisted individuals. Hopefully, you do not have one of them in your life. I do and it isn’t fun.

There is another aspect to this and it is the willingness to serve even when you know it will cause you emotional and especially physical pain. This is something that you may be forced to endure so another can have a chance to heal and recover. In a way, this is acting like a shield for that person or individuals so they can get back on their feet.

My husband and I are faced with that situation. He did it once before when there were many family emergencies. This time though, he has his own injuries and I may like helping but I don’t have his raw physical power. I don’t mind getting sore or getting some injuries here or there. It hurts me more to see him in pain.

But it is a pain he will gladly endure for those who need his help when no one else can or will help. I wish I could take some of it from him. I know I can’t but he inspires me to continue to reach out and help others.

Hopefully, you have someone in your life who is a role model of what a kind heart is. Hopefully, you have your role model of someone who is one part steel and one part velvet.

Thank you and enjoy your weekend,

Anah

  • Elow Ate Anah! As usual your blog topics are so deep and well written. That’s no problem, I know that we all are busy. I wasn’t really busy the past few weeks because I was jobless but now that I have a new job, I have something to stress about (well hopefully not that stressful).

Really? Bibisita ka sa Pinas? That’s good? Are you going to escape the winter in our tropical paradise country? hehehe. I’d love to go home too this winter. I’m not a big fan of the freezing cold weather. Hope you have fun! ^_^
